What are manhole cards?

Manhole cards are public relations items focused on manhole covers, planned and supervised by the Sewerage Public Relations Platform (GKP). Manhole cards showcase diverse manhole cover designs that reflect the unique character of regions throughout Japan, featuring beautiful photos and information about the design’s origins and local points of interest.

About Manhole Card Designs

While the city boasts nine manhole cover designs, the currently distributed card showcases the Sasayama district design. The central image is the stone walls and moat of Sasayama Castle Ruins, framed by a pine tree and sasa-yuri lilies both symbols of the former town of Sasayama. You can see manholes with this design in the following areas:

• The Public Sewerage Sasayama Treatment Area around the Sasayama Castle ruins and the City Hall main building.
• The Designated Environmental Conservation Public Sewerage Fukusumi Treatment Area, which is a Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.
• The Designated Environmental Conservation Public Sewerage, Hioki Treatment District, an area with roadside scenery that flourished as an old highway and expansive, rich farmland

Tambasasayama City Historical Museum

*Distribution is available on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays since December 2024.

Tambasasayama City Historical Museum is closed December 25th – January 1st for the New Year.

It is recommended to check in advance, as there may be temporary closures or other unforeseen circumstances.

Distribution is limited to one card per person. We do not offer distribution by mail or accept advance reservations. Supplies of cards are limited. We will notify you on our website when stocks are low. We’d appreciate it if you could fill out a quick survey when you receive your item.
