What is this Tambasasayama rural lifestile experience?

A tour for those who want to gain a deeper understanding of Tambasasayama from a different perspective, and for those looking to establish a second base there. This experience, which lies between tourism and relocation, allows individuals to engage with others, gain insights, confirm their feelings, and make decisions—connecting everything to their own lives.

You will have an opportunity to step into the customs and ways of rural life by working and chatting with local residents.

You’ll spend time in the lush, nature-rich satoyama landscapes.Through this journey, you’ll experience busy rural life firsthand and share with local guides and fellow participants your thoughts on “How far can I join into the countryside lifestyle?”

Tour details

Date:  November 1-3, 2025 (A 2-night, 3-day tour)

Capacity:  12 participants (minimum 8)

Price:  49,500 yen per person (including tax; price applies to middle school students and above)

Transportation:  Generally, guests will use their own vehicle (private or rental).

Day 1: Fukusumi Post Town Hotel NIPPONIA

Day 2: Renovated traditional guesthouse ( located in a rural part of the city)

Meals included:

2. Itinerary and experiences

Day 1

Meeting together with all the participants (at 1:00 pm)

Innovations in Community Development Happening in the Rural Areas of Tambasasayama and Proposals for a Lifestyle That Can Be Realized Here

Beyond Tourism Course:  Mr. Takaya Adachi, Local PR Plan Inc. presents the Origins and Current State of Community Development in Fukusumi Shukuba-machi, where creative artisans gather.

Pre-Migration Course:  We will visit practitioners of a lifestyle that can be realized here. The people you will meet include families, business owners, and craftsmen who have either established a dual base lifestyle or relocated to this area.

Check-in at Fukusumi Post Town Hotel NIPPONIA. Afterwards, enjoy dinner and a social gathering event with other participants and tour staff.

Stay at a cultural heritage-class residence with fully private rooms available for exclusive rental.

(We will discuss room arrangements based on participants’ requirements.)

Day 2: “Let’s dive in to the village”

Common to Both Courses (Full day):  Hands-on engagement with rural life in the local village.

While working together with local residents to maintain and improve the living environment, such as grass cutting, cleaning ditches, and checking wildlife prevention fences, you will have the opportunity to delve into rural customs and the busy lifestyle of part-time farmers through shared work and conversations.

Lunchtime (Lunch is not provided. A recommended restaurant will be introduced)
Free-time from 12:00 to 3:00pm

Farmwork (Common to Both Courses)

Experience work and responsibilities required in the fields within the same village. You will have the opportunity to become familiar with local customs through farmwork involving Tambaguro edamame, the branded black soybeans cultivated in Tambasasayama.

While engaging in hands-on activities, you should be able to gain insights from conversations with locals about the schedule and activities of part-time farmers, changing rural rules, and ways to interact with others.

Nighttime activities in the village (options to choose from)

① Going out for drinks with local residents (drink fee excluded)

② Calm and relaxing dinner at the hotel

③ Go out and explore Tambasasayama’s delicious cuisine (customers cover their own expenses)

Stay at a renovated traditional guesthouse in the rural area of the city.

Day3:

Morning hike at Mt. Takashiro (optional)

Possibilities to Establish Lifestyles and Agriculture Connected to Future Generations

Beyond Tourism Course: Experience glimpses of pottery-making with Tamba pottery artisans; cooking using local products from Tambasasayama; and hands-on work experiences in the community. Visit places that you wouldn’t encounter through regular tourism and engage in hands-on activities.

Pre-Migration Course: Visit fields where urban families and students involved in satoyama conservation and agricultural work connect with local businesses at Kira Farm in Tambasasayama.

Whether it’s a U-turn-style relocation or a vision for the next 100 years, the presenter will share valuable insights into their efforts to establish a Satoyama village model.
